Assistant Financial Controller - Sicily

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Financial Controller to join the Finance team of an exceptional luxury hotel operation in Taormina, Sicily.

Working closely with and supporting the Financial Controller, you will play an important role in overseeing the financial operations of two prestigious five-star properties. This is a varied position offering exposure to all aspects of hotel finance, with the opportunity to contribute to financial performance, reporting accuracy and effective financial controls within a world-class hospitality environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reports
• Supporting the annual budgeting process, forecasting and financial planning, including variance analysis and recommendations
• Overseeing the accuracy and efficiency of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable operations
• Supporting general ledger management and ensuring the accurate recording of all financial transactions
• Managing month-end and year-end closing activities, including reconciliations and balance sheet reviews.
• Maintaining effective internal controls and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures.
• Preparing financial analysis and providing meaningful insights to support operational and commercial decision-making.
• Working closely with other departments to promote financial awareness and ensure sound financial management.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable Italian accounting requirements and relevant international financial standards.

The Candidate

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented finance professional with a strong accounting background and a genuine interest in luxury hospitality.

You will ideally offer:

• A degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline.
• At least 2–3 years' experience in a finance or accounting position, ideally within a luxury hotel or hospitality environment.
• A sound understanding of accounting principles, GAAP/IFRS and financial control procedures.
• Experience across financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting and forecasting.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with hotel financial systems, PMS and ERP platforms.
• Fluency in both Italian and English, written and spoken.
• A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• High levels of integrity, discretion and professionalism.
